In 2014, PETA named NYC “the top city for veggie-only eaters” and this year the city is listed #3 in the top 10 vegan friendly cities. New York has always been on the leading edge of innovation when it comes to food. Mix that with a city known for its activism and vanguard chefs and the result is a vibrant vegan and vegetarian destination.

New York is a city of omnivores, vegetarians and vegans with the restaurants and dishes to match...our own empanadas included. Although it’s not so hard to find great vegetarian and vegan options in the city these days, Nuchas wants there to be an empanada option for all of New York’s great eaters. We wanted to be a place where all vegan, vegetarian and meat lovers are welcome and can eat delicious empanadas tailored to their way of life.

At Nuchas half of our offerings are vegan/vegetarian friendly.

Vegetarian empanadas:

Portobello: Simmered Portobello mushrooms, spinach and onions mixed with mozzarella then finished with fresh herbs, in spinach dough.

Spicy Cheese: includes a combination of 8 different cheeses including Reggianito Argentino, Oaxaca and Asiago mixed with jalapeños and sweet caramelized onions. Our classic dough is topped with Parmesan cheese that gives a distinctive texture adding even more cheesy flavor.

Vegan empanadas:

Shiitake curry: Shiitake mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, onions and bell peppers are cooked together with coconut milk and spices. We handmake a dough flecked with turmeric to enhance its Indian influence.

Seitan al Pastor: Our founder’s favorite Nuchas. For those craving for the classic Mexican dish but without the meat, this empanada is the go-to option. Seitan, chipotle, crushed peppers, tomatoes and apple cider vinegar are simmered together. Fresh pineapple chunks are added at the end. The perfect spice to sweet ratio enrobed in our classic dough.

Apple, cranberry, Nutella: Granny Smith apples, cranberries, pear, Nutella & milk chocolate are lovingly combined in our white almond dough. Enough said!
